If you're external hard drive suddenly loses its data and a message similar to "Disk needs to be initialised" or "Do you want to format" pops up, you may require a data recovery service to physically scan over the entire drive and reconstruct any files and folders found. Once a new directory and file structure has been recreated from the disk scan, we then recover your data to one of our storage drives for inspection of the recovery. Should the recovery be in order, we can then copy your files back to another external drive or if no physical defects are found on the original drive, we may be able to re-use it.
Even if a drive has some bad sectors, it may be possible to recover the vast majority of files from the drive. We have had recoveries that took as long as 48 hours to perform, so if you have a drive with lost data or deleted files requiring recovery, please stop using the drive and bring it in for assessment.
If your drive has a serious physical drive problem, it may still be recovered and we can put you in contact with a specialist firm for a quote on your particular problem if we find an issue we cannot resolve in-house.
